Mother, Mother...

Wow.  Since I last posted a fairy tale wedding occurred, my son turned 1 and I celebrated my second Mother's Day!
I'll start with the Royal Wedding rundown:
Kate looked gorgeous, sophisticated, appropriate and regal.  I loved her dress and I thought she looked natural and not overdone.  Good choice.  I also loved her sister Pippa's dress.  It is funny to me that after the hoopla of the wedding was over, the press turned the attention on Pippa.  I have heard more about this girl in the last week and 1/2 --- we now know she is dating a former cricket player and that she is a "party girl."  I have also heard her called, "Her Royal Hotness."  Well, as much as I love a good pop culture moniker, I hate to point out that she is NOT a royal.  She is only related to one.  Anyway, I loved watching the wedding coverage and it made me think of my mother watching Diana's wedding to Charles.  Cameron got to witness a piece of history as he was drinking his morning bottle and playing with his farm set.  I'm sure he will treasure the moment...

After all of the wedding festivities my son turned 1!!!!  Yes, I made it a year.  I have to say it was an amazing, challenging, crazy, tiring, joyful and wonderful year.  I learned so much -- not only about child rearing (and I'm only beginning), but also about myself and my husband.  We became teammates in an entirely new way.  We worked together, worried together, bounced ideas off of each other, helped each other and supported each other.  There weren't many melt downs (well, Cam had a few) and I am proud of us.  To celebrate Cam's big year we had a small gathering of family and close friends.  It was low-key and appropriate for a one year old's party --we only spent $21,000 on the china, catering, bounce house, gift bags, band and pony (that was his gift).  Ha!  Did I mention that there is a new TLC reality show featuring disgustingly over the top children's birthday parties?

Cameron didn't want anything to do with his cake, which is suprising since I have a sweet tooth.  He had a blast with all of the guests and got some awesome gifts -- a trike, a push toy and a cool swim suit.  Now he is one and is into everything, trying to walk and testing me every second.  The whole thing with switching over to cow's milk and more foods is difficult to navigate and I am taking it slow.  He doesn't seem in a hurry either...

So, Mother's Day was yesterday.  Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there!!!  I had a nice day with my two favorite guys and also celebrated with my own mother.  To cap off the night I watched the Ellen Mother's Day Show on my DVR.  Has anyone ever seen this one?  Ellen (much like Oprah's favorite things) gives away TONS of baby products to an audience packed with only pregnant women.  Jealous?  I am.  I wouldn't have clued into this since I am at work on Fridays, but my fabulous LA friend, Amy, won life's lottery and got to be an audience member for this year's show.  Amy is expecting later this month and was among the many pregnant women jumping up and down, clapping and crying (okay, she probably didn't cry, but some women did) as Ellen brought out awesome give-away after awesome give-away.  Among the haul -- a washer and dryer, crib, pack & play, stroller, car seat, highchair...who needs a baby shower?
Of course, my ever practical husband was sitting next to me pondering what the prize tax liability would be for the gifts.  I love Ellen!  Oh, and today she has Bethenny Frankel on the show...

I have been watching Bravo's Pregnant in Heels and find it fascinating.  Who are these women who hire a maternity concierge?  Obviously none of them live in my neighborhood.  Worth a watch if you are pregnant or have a small child...

Later skaters.
